Action: Connecting the Dots - Vanguard's Toxic Investments
Vanguard is a global company, and the investment choices it makes have ramifications both locally and globally. Vanguard buys stock from companies polluting frontline communities like Chester, PA. It also buys bonds from the Peruvian oil company Petroperú to support its oil expansion, which threatens Indigenous land and fishing communities. From Pennsylvania to Peru and many places in between, Vanguard is perpetuating both environmental and climate injustice, as well as violating Indigenous rights.
A delegation of Indigenous peoples of the Peruvian Amazon – Achuar and Wampís - as well as a representative from the small-scale fishermen of the Peruvian Coast will be our featured speakers. They have asked Vanguard leadership for a meeting to share their specific concerns about the plans of Petroperú, the latest oil company to covet their region, and ask Vanguard to end its complicity. Whether Vanguard agrees to hear them or not, we will amplify their message.
We'll be holding a training to prep for this action on Sunday, November 13th. You can register for that here!
